New Project

On New Year's Eve there was an estate sale at Sam Zelman's Clothing Store. The store was in Old Town and was open for like 70 years.  It hadn't been open for several years, but until it closed the gal that ran it walked every day from her house in College Hill.  She was a Hollocaust survivor, and an amazing woman.  When she was no longer able to walk to the store, it was time to close 'er down.  Anyway, they had an estate sale and I stopped in.  There was a cute dresser and armoir that I was interested in.  I left a bid and what do you know, I won them.  Ollie is desperately in need of some furniture and these two pieces would be the perfect addition to her room, of course, after I paint them white.

As I'm new to blogging, I didn't remember to take a before picture, but I do have a sanded before picture.  There is a mirror, but it was obviously removed before I took the pictures.

I think they will look sooo cute in her room!  I have the room painted a pretty pink color and the Hubs is working on putting the painted closet doors back on, but let's just say they are going to need some major touch ups after that installation!  Thanks Babe!  (To his credit, all the doors are solid wood and probably weigh 75lbs each.)

Anyway, I will post primed pictures next and will hopefully get to paint them one of these days when the weather is warmer.  I rolled on the primer, but think I want to spray paint them a glossy white, so it needs to warm up.  So updates coming soon!

Back to Business

The other day I got this bright idea to update my blog...maybe make it look more professional!  I'm always looking at other people's blogs with a bit of the big green blog envy.  They are so cute, show so much personality...mine feels so boring...  I AM a newbie after all, but what a PAIN it is to change things.  I'm feeling pretty confident right this moment, but I'm sure I'll forget all the tricks I've learned by the time I want to make more changes.  Oh well, that's the story of my life.

Hopefully I achieved my goal, but if not, I like it so I guess that's what matters.  Share the love, let me know what you think of the changes.

My next goal is to be more consistent with my blogging.

Bloggin Problem

Wow, who knew this would be so much work.  Not only do I want to be witty and have amazingly talented crafty things to share, I have to almost be a computer programmer to make the darn thing look cute...all I can say is WOW!

Slow Progress

So we've been in our house for about 4 1/2 weeks, a week of which the Big Guy was gone on a business trip.  Is it wrong that some rooms still look like we just got here?  The family room and the kitchen are pretty much set up, the bedrooms are coming along...but I just can't stay motivated to finish ANYTHING... What's my problem!?

OK, so it doesn't look that different...I hate that little cubby in the wall.  The shelves aren't wide enough or tall enough to actually hold anything that I collect.  Please offer suggestions as to what you would do with it if it was yours.  Yes, I hate the wallpaper, but if I start on another room without actually finishing it, the Big Guy might come unglued.

So this room looks at least homier...but still chaotic.  I find that I sit in various rooms and stare at things that should be hanging on the wall - wondering where in the heck they should go.  I haven't found the proper "home" for everything anything yet, which is what keeps bothering me.  Eventually the above room will get a complete makeover.  I want to paint the paneling white, and the bookshelves a combination of white and black...see I have this great idea to update the kitchen cabinets, which is why the bookshelves will be black.  They will mirror the other end of the room where the kitchen is...of course that's also once we tear out the wall between the kitchen and family room.  So many plans, so little money!

Above I mentioned that the Big Guy was out of town for a week during the moving chaos.  He went to London on business and stopped at Harrod's where he picked each of the girls up a stuffed puppy (since they'll never have a real one - story for another day), and Ollie couldn't put it down.  I went up to check on her and see what I found.

Is that not precious...
