I've been looking for something brass for my house for awhile now.  I keep seeing gold and brass accents and although I never really loved the look...its been growing on me lately!

I'm thinking it's from the 70s...and I don'tlove the smoked glass, but I could always change that.

What do you think of my find? Pretty unique and only $25.00.

Honey, how about you?

Trimming the fat...

Do you have cable tv?
I do and and I'm not happy about it!
We have the bundle.  You know the home phone, tv, internet bundle...the one that gives you all of the glorious discounts.  With all of those lovely discounts, we are paying up to and sometimes over $200.00.  I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous!!
My hubs has been trying to get me to get rid of the home phone for ever, but with little ones, I've always had a hard time giving it up.  The whole, "what if we have a babysitter and the police/ambulance/firetruck needs to find our house"... well, I think I've finally decided we can do without the darn home phone. It's only solicitors that call it anyway.
Not to mention we are slaves to the TV.  I find myself getting sucked in to some ridiculous movie or tv show and I don't get jack squat done in the evenings...soooo....
We've decided to go the Roku/Hulu/Netflix route...
I went ahead and signed up for Netflix, can you say $7.99/month?!

I'm a little late to this party...because OMG, I love it!

I don't know if this will help the slave to the TV thing, but there aren't time constraints, so I can always watch it later!

We also signed up for Hulu Plus.

I haven't watched much yet, but at $7.99/month I think it will work just fine.  You can watch new network shows the day after they really what are you missing out on.

We did have to sign up for Xbox live in order to stream both Netflix and Hulu Plus, but it's pretty slick and only $5.00/month.  I even googled and found that I could buy a year for $48 through Amazon instead of the normal $59.99. Score.

We plan to buy the Roku boxes for the rest of the TVs, but they are reasonable and will give us the ability to watch TV on all the TVs.

I'm really curious to see what else is out there!  I hope more and more people drop cable so that they realize that screwing the customer really isn't cool!

(This wasn't a paid post, I just want to spread the knowledge that there are alternatives out there!)

Have you gotten rid of Cable?

What do you watch instead?

Back to School

Wednesday was Harper's first day of school!
I can't get over how fast the summer flew by, not to mention how fast my baby is growing up!

Second grade already?!
Where did the time go?
My sweet Ollie started Kindergarten on Friday...
Everyone kept asking if I was going to cry...I didn't, but it was surreal leaving her at the school!

It was the first time they've gone to school together...EVER!! Amazing!!

Hug your babies, they're not babies for long!!

(Yes, my 5 year old is almost as tall as my 7 year old, and has bigger feet!
She totally doesn't look like a kindergartner!)

5 on Friday - Link Up!

Hello Friends, Happy Friday!!!
I've seen many bloggers doing these fun 5 on Friday posts, and so I decided to join in and be a part of the link up at The Good Life.
You should totally join so we'll know what you're loving too!
Here we go:
Smashbox - Camera Ready CC Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Dark Spot Correcting
Smashbox CC cream.
I have always been a makeup whore, and for the most part, I have always loved expensive makeup. I can't tell you why, other than it just felt so luxurious...  The older I've gotten and the more money I've had to spend on daycare, kids activities etc., I have cut back.  I have some drugstore favorites too, but I went out on a limb and tried the new Smashbox CC cream.  They had me at dark spot correcting...hello...cause I'm getting a few age spots and me no likey!  Once this runs out, I'm not opposed to trying another brand, but for now I like it.
It's lightweight, and can work as a moisturizer and a foundation on it's own, or you can wear your normal moisturizer, the CC cream and then foundation.  That sounds like a lot, but it's so lightweight and has a matte finish, that it all works quite well together.
Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter, Cherry Tart
Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Cherry Tart
See, here is a cheap makeup option! Ha!  I read about this lipstick on another blog, please forgive me for not remembering where...but I absolutely love this lipstick.  This is the perfect red.
It is lightweight, isn't sticky, and fades off nicely.  I have been looking for a good red for quite awhile.  I found a Chanel red that I liked, but it was more matte and ridiculously expensive, and as it would wear off, you sort of look like a know what I mean?
At like $7.00 you can beat it either!
I'm loving the Vera Bradley backpacks.
My girls just started Kindergarten and 2nd Grade, and I wanted them to have cute backpacks this year and thankfully they were on sale.
I'm not a huge fan of Vera Bradley, but the backpacks are so darn cute and the girls loved them!

Infused Vodka
Ok, this is now my favorite drink.  I've only made pineapple, but oh the possibilities!!
You just cut up your pineapple, leaving the core because I'm told that the core will soak up the impurities, pour in vodka and wait.  You need to leave the container in a cool, dark spot and agitate it every day or so. I have mine in a bottle with a stopper, so I just go in and turn it upside down every couple of days. Shake it in a martini shaker with ice, and serve up in a martini glass! It is so yummy and there are no extra calories because it doesn't need a mixer!
The Pioneer Woman's Restaurant Style Salsa
Let me just say, OMG, if you haven't tried this recipe, you absolutely have too!  It is hands down the best salsa I have ever had and it is SUPER easy!
Go on, print off the recipe and run to the store...Let me know what you think!
OK, so this was a bunch of randomness, but I love it all!
Have a great weekend!
Love ya,

Where in the world?

So, the more time that goes by the harder it is for me to focus and come back to blogging.
Every year as summer approaches I pull further and further away from the blog.
Why is that?
It's not that I don't have a crap ton of projects to do, a ton of stuff to share about the funny things my kids are doing, or just about anything else...I just get busy and time passes and nothing gets blogged about.
I have been busy this summer - I've done tons of gardening, painting, project-ing, you know that stuff that makes a house a home...but I've also layed by the pool, drank a few cocktails, and totally forgot to take before pictures of just about everything.  I guess what I'm trying to say is that I was living, and not documenting as I went...although I do have a few pictures to show for it.
If you follow me on Instragram, you are pretty up to date, because it shows some of what I've been up to...Instagram is easy and I always have my phone with me.
This upcoming year won't be much better I'm afraid, as I have said YES to all of the following committements:
1. Chairman of the Board, Communities In Schools (Non-Profit) -
I've served on this board for 4 years and was totally flattered when I was asked, although I didn't know that the Executive Director was about to retire, so that leads to my next committment.
2. Chair of the CIS Executive Director Search Committee (see above)
3. Girl Scout Troop Leader -
This will be my second year leading my oldest's Girl Scout Troop.  Thank goodness I have a fabulous co-leader, but no one would step and lead so that's how we got the gig.
Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland Names New CEO
4. PTO Treasurer -
Please kill me now! Ha! Thankfully the treasuser before me was meticulous and has a great process in place.  I didn't know what I was getting myself into when I said "yes" to this one.
5. Soccer Mom -
I know cliche`d, but my oldest just joined a club soccer team.
6. Swimming Mom -
My youngest wants to be on a swim team, so we signed up for that too.
7. Dance Mom -
My girls swore they were done, done, done with dance when it ended in May, but my youngest just announced she would like to start again...we'll see, because for some reason these classes are like 4:00 or 4:30 - apparently geared toward the non-working parents...which I am not.
OK, not this kind of dance mom!
8. Full-Time Employee -
Yeah, I work for a living too.  What the hell am I thinking?
I guess this is just my way of saying that I have a VERY BUSY year coming, but I still have a TON of stuff to do to the house and in the house and around the I will try to document all of that too.
First, I need to show you all the stuff I've done over the summer.
Check back...I'll be here...sometimes!

(OK the hubs read this post and said I sounded like a single parent - so I'm here to tell you I have a fabulous husband that helps out tremendously...but I'm still the one with all of the commitments! Ha!)
